Thank you Sephora!

August 28th, 2009

benefitIt’s old news to BoB readers that I love Sephora.  I love that I can try products on before I buy them. I love perusing the aisles for ages, checking out what’s new.  But most of all, I love the deals. On my recent trip to Sephora, I noticed that at the register, they were selling a two-in-one Benefit compact that includes Boing, their industrial-strength concealer,  and Eye Bright, a pink concealer/shadow base that instantly brightens eyes.  Normally, I wouldn’t be tempted to buy products at the counter, but this one was selling for ridiculously cheap.  How cheap, you ask? $8.  That’s right, $8.  Of course, I bought it and have been in love ever since.  Boing is a great, light textured concealer that works wonders on my undereye circles, and Eye Bright really does live up to it’s name.  These two products make me look rested and refreshed.  Plus, the compact comes with a mirror, perfect for touch-ups on the go. Can’t argue with that, right? :)

By the way, Eye Bright regularly retails for $20, and Boing for $18.  At $8, this is a definite STEAL!

Where to find it: This product is a Sephora exclusive.  I’m not sure if it’s still in stores, but its definitely available online here.

Drugstore Find of the Week!

June 28th, 2009

maybelline2_phixrSo I’ve finally admitted to myself that I need two different concealers – one for concealing my under eye circles, and another for covering up those pesky zits/acne scars.  I normally use Maybelline’s Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Concealer to cover my imperfections, but its too thick for under my eyes, and not the right consistency or color.  So one day while perusing the makeup aisle at Walgreen’s, I picked up Maybelline’s Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in Yellow.  The yellow shade promises to completely conceal blemishes, dark circles and other imperfections.  It comes in a lipstick-like tube that’s perfect for toting around in your purse (if needed).  I was skeptical at first, since it only costs around $6, but have been pleasantly surprised! I normally brush my finger over the tip of the stick to warm the concealer before applying it. I dot in under my eyes and press it into the skin, instead of rubbing it (which you should never do because rubbing only makes it disappear!). To finish the look, I always, ALWAYS use a finishing powder to set the concealer.  This helps it last all day long.

Where to find it: Pick up Maybelline’s Cover Stick Corrector Concealer at any drugstore/big box store for about $6 (a steal!).

P.S.  My little sister has major bags under her eyes, and this concealer definitely helped.  I would absolutely recommend it.  You just have to use it right!

xoxo,
Crystal

Josie Maran’s Got it Goin’ On

June 9th, 2009

josieI’m always interested in trying new makeup lines, especially those that tout natural ingredients and environmentally-friendly practices.  So when I heard that Josie Maran, former spokes-model for Maybelline, had a new cosmetic line, I knew I had to give it a try. Josie’s biodegradable products are NEVER tested on animals, are paraben, fragrance, petrochemical, and toxin-free, and come in recyclable packaging. They’re even organic. What more could you ask for?

Already impressed by the ingredient list, I decided to try Josie’s Concealer, which promises to camouflage imperfections and create the illusion of perfect skin. The concealer is somewhat dry, which I found to be good and bad.  It works great at covering imperfections, like acne, scars, etc., but is a bit too dry for under-eye application.  Still, I liked that it left imperfections covered and matte (because the last thing I need is a shiny zit).

Josie’s Lip Gloss is also a hit.  It comes in sheer, easy to wear shades that highlight your natural lip color “with a sophisticated touch of shimmer.” I love the yummy smell and sheer color, but most of all, I love that it’s moisturizing.  Unless your lips are severely dry, you can totally use this in place of lip balm.  How sweet is that? Unlike many other glosses, this gloss isn’t sticky, and is full of natural and organic ingredients.

So if you’re cautious about what you put on your face, but still want to look fab, I suggest you try Josie Maran Cosmetics.

Where to find them: Josie Maran Cosmetics can be found at a Sephora near you or online. The Concealer retails for $22, and the Lip Gloss sells for $20.
